possible appointment of a permanent
committee to work with tho city coun

Mrs. Margaret A. Barbre, pioneer
of 1M7, ho for half a century was
a resident of Lane county, passed
away Thursday, April 2, after an Ill
ness of two weeks at the home of her
daughter and aon-in-law, Mr. and
.Mrs. Henry Hanna at Baker, Oregon,
it waa announced today. She was bO
years, 8 months aud days old.
Mrs. Barbre la survived by a sister,
.Mra. Martha E. Morgan. 833 Alder
street, and six children, aa follows:
Joseph Irvin Hunsaker, Junction City;
Mrs. Minnie Vogeli, Talent; Mrs.
Louvilla Hanna. Baker; Mrs. Alma
Handsaker. Alhambra, Cel.; Mrs.
Clyde Jinks, Fresno, Cel.; Earl Bar
bre. San Jose, Cal.
Mrs. Barbre was the daughter of
Joseph and Elizabeth Hunsaker of
Platte county. Mo., and was born
July 10, In 1847 she came to
Oregon with her parenta by ox train,
mid settled in Marion county 12
miles from Salem. There were 21
wagons in their caravan. In 1S33 she
was married to Thomas Barbre. The
couple located their home on a dona
tion land claim in Ixis Valley 2D miles
from Eugene, which was their home
for approximately 48 years.
The funeral services nnd interment
are being held in Baker.
Canton Hovey will meet tonight at
7:30 for a practice drill to prepare
for the Saturday night session at
which the Decoration of Chivalry, the
highest decoration for women in the
I. O. O. K. lodge, will be conferred
on 10 women, It is announced. '
The Saturday night meeting will
begin at 8 o'clock with a half hour
band concert by the I. O. O. F. bond.
Tbe program which follows will in
clude aelectiona by the Johnson or
chestra, nnd aolna by Mrs. J. E. Rich
mond. Conferring of the decorations
will follow.

After the ceremony the Ladies of

Lane Stock Ready
To be Sent North
One full carload of aheep and hoga
from Lane county ranches will bo
whipped to the North Portland atock
yards next Tuesday, according to an
nouncement today. Ho far there have
been signed up 105 sheep and (H) hogs
to be placed on sale. This is the
lurgeit shipment ttent nut at one time
by the Lane County Co-operatlre
Hhipping association in several
months. It la expected that during
the spring there will be an increase

reported. .
New Oregon Laws
Take Effect Here
Copies of 17 new Oregon laws
passed at the last session of the leg
islature and which have emergency
daunts putting thera into effect Im
mediately, have been received at the
office of Hheriff Frank E. Taylor.
All other lawa passed by the legis
lature do not take effect until after

C. A. McClain, superintendent of
public utilities of Eugene, will be tbe
principal speaker at the Eugene
chamber of commerce luncheon to be
held next Thursday, according to an
nouncement today. Mr. McClain will
speak on the proposed bond issues to
provide for extensions to the water
main system and a new reservoir on
Skinner butte, and the new water pro
ject providing for a pipeline to Hay
den bridge on the McKenzte. This
luncheon talk coming a few days be
fore the special bond election April
13 is expected to draw & large at
tendance as Mr. McClain will fully
explain the needs for passing the Is
sues that have a direct bearing on his
department of the city administration.
