Federal Warrant
Fred Head who has been residing
in Eugene for the past month was
arrested today by deputies from the
office of Sheriff Taylor at the re

Hheriff Taylor. Officers from the fed
eral office will be here from Portland

The Independence day celebration

Epidemic is Most
Serious in History
SALEM, Ore.. March 24. An epi
demic of influenza has struck the
public school here that is (he most
widespread of any epidemic in the
history of the city. .Statistics issued
here by tho high school authoriticH
indicated that for the month ending
March 20 the per centage of. attend
ance of bigh school children was 01.1
per cent, over five per cent, lower
than normal, and the lowest for which
any records are available.
Individually the cases are not so
severe as in previous epidemics.

With a rapidly rising temperature
this afternoon and prospects for a
continuation of the sunny weather and
at least one straw hat -appearing on
Willamette street, it seems that
spring is here in fact as well ns indi
cated by the calendar. Although the

ly $125,000 in favor of Mrs. Dorothy
Muriel Dennistoun was rendered this
afternoon by the jury in her suit
against her former husband, Lieuten
ant-Colonel Ian Onslow Denuistouu,
for money she claimed she had loaned

First call for a meeting of tho Ku-
geno Twilight Baseball league was
sounded today by W. W. (Pop)

year. The meeting will be held in the
assembly room of the chamber of com
merce tonight at 7:.i0 o clock, and nil
managers of ' teams, phiyers and
others interested in the league arc
invited to be present and take part
in the discussion and vlnns.

games will be played, plans for
financing the organization and .other

The South Willamette baseball field

small oteamer, Madeline, which has
been transporting the 40 members of
the Oregon Agricultural band on their
itinerary, struck a snag near the

The Htlie steamer began to sink
and Captain L. O. Hosford immedia
tely sent out an S. O. S. call. The
river steamer Pomona heard the cull
and responded. The musicians were
