A councillor occupies a position of liaison officer between the national chamber and his own organization in important questions. 'Ihe chamber of commerce of the United States is the alrongest com mercial organization in the world. It object is to encourage trade and com merce; increase the efficiency of American buniness organization; to obtu.ni uniformity and eijuity in busi-. ness usage ud law and to get proper consideration and concentra tion of opinion on question affecting the financial, commercial, civic and iucluntriul interests of .the country nt large. A system of referenda operated by the chamber lias met with unusual success in obtaining the viewpoint of business men on national questions. There opinions, when they point to the need of legislation or other gov ernmental action, are transmitted to the loverunirut's executive officers nud to congress by the national cham ber' headquarter at Washington. Mr. and Mrs. Nathan Barrett will be hosts this evening to members of the Thursday Evening Bridge club at their home. Interesting of this evening's events will be the niusicale at the Congrega tional churcn, Thirteenth and Jr'erry streets, when Mrs. Fred J. She is a graduate of the University of Oregon, and is a member of Knppa Alpha Theta and Thcta Sigma l'hi.
