The following were the bids sub mitted: M. O. Bessonett, $1)755.80; F. C. Drury and others, $8375; Olds Construction company, $6200; John F. Khyner, $857H; George, Stewart, $7581.50. The bids include U work ou the span and preliminary excava tion or filling necessary. M. O. Bes sonett is now constructing the hew Ninth avenue bridge for the city of Kugene. Arrangements to sell the graiu nt cost have also been mode with the Arnhnrt feed store at Cres well and the Kterling feed store ot Cottage Grove. Other agencies will soon be announced. Courad Olson, ex-justice of the Ore gon supreme court, Avns acquitted n police court late yesterday of a charge of receiving liquor which had been lodged against him after he was arrested in a raid on a house on Vark street. Olwon said he had gone to the police to obtain the name of a witness, needed in a lawsuit. He tes tified that ho had received no liquor, and the police bud io evidence against him. Snyna Vassor, In whose place he was caught, was fined $250, and Bay WilioniH wos fined $25. Roman Catholic church in connection1 with his assertion that the church took control of the education of the children of its communicants away from the parents. Under such circum stances, he said, it was a question be tween the church and the state, and the courts must hold, he added, that in such a contest, the state's rights were paramount. Mr. Chamberlain asserted that the Catholic church was attempting to set the children of their communi cants asido from other children, and to make thorn different from others when they gre v up to the detriment of the democracy. It was the purpose of the people of Oregon, he said, to bring about greater democracy. Pub lic schools bring children in contact with the rich and the poor and 'hose of different faiths, he said, and tench them in such a way that when they go out into the world they arc toler ant of the rights of other. Search Being Made For Crippled Girl Somewhere in Eugene is a little crippled girl, Muy Clark, who en mo with her parents from Marshfield 'sev eral weeks ago. This,, little girl Is badiy crippled, according to Ella Horn registered nurse of Coos county, who had filed an application for entrance into the Shrincrs' hospital for treat inent for the girl. Because the bos pltal has a long waiting list, it was a long time before the girls' turn came. The hospital notified Miss Horn that they were reay to admit May on March 16.
