Heed flax is uminlly short to med

branched bearing a large number of
bolls. Fiber flax, on' the other' hand,
is usually tall with few branches and
thus few seed balls. The fromer
type uses most of its energy in the
production of seed whilo the latter
type is limited In seed production,

tains the fiber. It fs desirable, there

the type you expect to ue.
Cool Climate Boat
Flax thrives in ,a moist cool cli

Many people consider flax a crop

It should then be raked over and
spread out to dry. After an hour
or two it should he raked over again
continuing at intervals of three or
four hours until ft is dried out. This
raking over is to prevent the sticking
together of the flax seed. If the
aecd is made so wet that it sticks to
gether, and is allowed to dry in that!
fashion,, it is practically impossible
to get It into suitable condition for
sowing, nn many seeds are damaged
in breaking them apart nnd there are
small lumps left which do not feed
through the drill uniformly.
Flax should be sown 'as soon as
the ground works well and the
weather is warm enough for prompt
germination. In normal years. April
1 to 15 is a good date for seeding,
although flax on soil that has been
plowed early and kept wvli worked
and free from weeds has been very
successful in moist seasons whrf
seeded even ns Into as June.
