OP) Dr. Walter Billions took the oath todny as acting president of the German republic to succeed Fricdcrich Ebert. Like Herr Ebert, Dr. SinionB did not add "So help me God," which is left optional in the oath as prescribed by the constitution. The ceremony took place in the Reichstag and the oath was admin istered by the Reichstag president, Herr Locbe. The supreme court today granted permission to the North Pacific Vnlon conference of Seventh Day Adventists to file a brief as a friend of the court in the Oregon school case, with tho consent of both sides. The adventists are conducting 83 church schools in the state, aud have joined the Epis copal church, alao ' appearing aa a friend of the court, in attacking the law. The chuTches contend that the new statute would deprive private schools of their natural rights, holding that parents have a common law right 10 direct the education of their childreu. The Adventists asserted that Ore rnn hud no riant to abrogate the vest ed rights of private schools and could not dismiss the conrractural rights of schools incorporated under the laws of the state. The school law was de nounced as "the encroachment of mis guided powers upon natural and in alienable rights." Big Boxing event at the Garden Monday night. Winter mlO Springfield School Heads Re-Elected At Board Meeting BPR1NGFIKLD, March IX (Spe cial) Vera D. Bain was re-elected principal of the Springfield high school at a meeting of the board of directors for district 19 in the city hall last evening. At the order of the board Mr. Bain's salary will be raised from $2,000 a year to $2,100. Mr. BaLn came here last autumn from Adna, Wash., and has held the posi tions of both principal and athletic coach, Mrs. Ora Read Ilemenway, princi pal of the Lincoln grade school, was ie-elected to serve a third year as principal at a salary of $1,400 for nine months. Otto Burcham, principal of the junior high school, was re elected ut a salary of $150 a month for nine months. If he accepts the position it will be his third year ! as professor in the Spriugfield schools, and his second as principal. Alfred J. Morgan was re-elected as head of the manual training depart ment at the Springfield high school at a salary of $1700 for nine mouths. Next year wll be Mr. Morgan's fourth year in the schools. No definite steps were taken by the school board in the matter ot the new $25,000 grade school, ap propriations for which were loted by the Springfield taxpayers on March 1. The Brattain land company meets today to decide whether a site shall be donated by them in the Brattain addition in the eastern part of the city.
