SPLITS ON (Continued from page one) Senator Watson explained, that not only should these senators not be invited to attend further conferences, but that they ehould not be named in filling republican vacancies on com mittees.' -"Then, if these gentlemen ire not to be treated as republicans," Sen ator Borah returned, "by what right docs a republican committee on com mittees assign them to places on the standing committees?" "My answer to that,'' replied Sen ator Watson, "is that two years ago when the farmer-labor senators came in they asked to be assigned to com mittee places by the republicans." - The Nebraska senntor protested against hasty action and said he would require some time to consider the committee list presented by the republican committee on committees. Senator Borah declared removal of the insurgent group from their posi tions of seniority was "impolitic, un wise, and unfair." "It is not only unfair to the men themselves," said Senator Borah, "but it is unfair to their constituents. 1 venture to say that within the next two years my colleagues will regret this action and will look back upon it as a mistake." Republican campaign spokesmen, he predicted would have to devote most of their time "in explaining this act to the constituents whoa they go into these men's states." "You may demote these men," he continued, "but they have the same influence in the senate they always had. There is a difference of opinion in the republican party-hut it is-not confined to the leaders but exista among the constituents. "If these men stood alone, It would ho different. But I see men sitting in (his chamber today whose seats will be imperilled if this program goon through. i. i iMilinemi Od ii ii (riirfl j (Continued from page one) JACK DAW'S ADVENTURES Story by Hal Cochran Drawings by L.
