Hearings on Gooding Bill Declared Closed WASHINGTON, Feb. 0. After having received tho views of Com misHioner Cumpbell of the interstate commerce commission, the house coo mitteo today closed the hearings on tho Hooding hill which would prohibit charging of higher railroad rates for short hauls than for long ones over the same route. Repairing Damage of Flood VALE, Ore., Feb. 0. Residents of Vale and surrounding country were busy today repairing damsge caused by the flood which yesterday morning resulted from ihe breaking of the ir rigation dam on Bully creek. Water had receded last night, leaving a de posit of silt every place it bad in vaded. Kstimates placed the Iobh at $250, 000, principally in livestock, after a survey of the flood-swept region. More than K.OOO sheep, TiOO cattle and many horses and hogs were drowned. The matter of disposing of the carcasseB of the animals, strewn along the path of the flood, waa one of the problems facing residents to day. There was no loss of life, though many narrow escapes were reported. Prisoners Escape From Penitentiary K AMA WALLA, Wash., Feb. 6.
