With many club luncheons, club parties, club benefits, and the usual club meetings, other social functions were not so numerous. And a stray dny or so of almost spring brought a tinge of restlessness into tho spirit of mid winter gaycty. And now tho various organiza tions enter Into siege of juvenile parties and dances that bring one of the merriest club seasons. Of course tho Assembly club childrcns' dsnco will bo attended by a large troop of society folk this coming week, and members of Amusement club are preparing for another jolly juvenile jamboree following soon aft erwards. While outstanding in fra ternal social programs will he the kiddies party which members of the American legion and the legion aux iliary aro to sponsor in February. Eugene society is in the midst of honoring numerous visitors, and ninny of tho larger affairs sre being given for these gucKts. ' Eugene friends Were greatly de lighted to hear this week that Mm. Flora Livcrinoro nnd daughter. Miss Gertrude Livermoro, are expected to return to Eugene about Fehraury 1, after an extended stay in tlie east. Miss Livermore and Miss Marian Linn studied at Harvard for a time, but recently Miss Livermore hss been tnking an executive buying course in the Jordon-Marsh firm ot Bos ton, and she and her mother have been living at Cambridge. They plan to return by the southern route, tak ing the boat from New York to New Orleans, and will visit at various cities on the way. . A merry gathering for a group of children was the breakfast given last Saturday for which Althea Peterson, daughter of Mr. nnd Mrs. Alfred S. Peterson, entertsined at her home. Inviting six of her little friends in for the occasion. Valentines and oth er gay favors of that day were used for tho table decorations. Mrs.Loy Rowling Hostess At Luncheon A very pretty luncheon was thnt given today by Mrs. Loy Rowling At her home as the first of a series of social functions which she is plannig for the coming weeks. Four small ta bles were set, burning red candles, snd bowls of pussy willows and red carnations being arranged as the cen terpiece for each. Assisting Mrs. Howling were Mrs. Alfred S. Droste,, general chair man; "Mrs. Daisy Patterson, refresh ments committee; Mrs. Hoy Smith, table committee; Mrs. Fred Chess, ticket committee; Mrs. Wayne Green, rccctption committee; Mrs. Fred Crosby, diversion committee; Mrs. Hay Glass, entertainment committee. At a formal dinner given at the Alpha Phi house this last week Miss Ruth Akers announced !her engage ment to Bert Hollnway. Both are atudents in the University of Oregon. Miss Akers is a senior in the school of music, and is widely known in Eugene for her vocal work. She is secretary of tho associated student body this year, is a member of Alpha Phi, and Mortar Board,. Mr. Holla way is a member of Bacherlordom. Following the dinner members of Bachclordoin called for an informal dance. Mondny Book club members were entertained this week by Mrs. W. E. Miner. There was a luncheon at the Anchorage followed by the meeting at Mrs. Miner's home. The group will meet again in two weeks with Mrs. A. E. Roberts and Mrs. L. J. Temple as joint hostesses. Miss Freda Goodrich has been in Eugene this week visiting. Her home is in Portland, and she graduated from the university Inst spring. She has been a guest at the Alpha Chi Omega bouse. . Mrs. Lawson G. Bradley is spend ing the week-end in Snlora where she is visiting with a sister. Mr. and Mrs. W. T. Kidwell left the first of tho week for their home near Pendleton, after spending the past few months in Eugene. Mrs. Lawson G. On February sixteenth Al pha chapter will meet at the home of Mrs. Marjorie Leonard, 1702 South Willamette with Mrs. Leonard and Mrs. George Hurley as joint hos tesses. Mr. and Mrs. William Sargent gave a very appreciated musical program, the former playing the violin and the latter the piano. Their program was es follows: "Schon Hosemarin," Kreisler: "Adoration," Maurice Telms; "The Swan." Saint Beans; and later, "Liebesfreud," KreiBler. Mrs. Henry D. Sheldon entertained with a reading, "Tho Golden Doom," a ploy by Lord Dunsany. 'Following the program there was the social hour, the' guests gathering around the sev eral attractive tables for tea. Once each month the Unitarian ladies sponsor some kind of literary ieature which is looked forward to with much interest by members of the alliance and their friends. Ex-Soldiers Will Be Given Aid By Auxiliary Interesting of mid-winter's benefits will be the bridge and whist benefit tea for which Eugene Unit, No. 3, American Legion auxiliary will enter tain at the Osburn hotel, Saturday January 31 from two o'clock to five o'clock. . The affair is given each year, the funds being used to aid ex-soldiers and families, and disabled veterans in the veterans' hospital No. 77, Port land. Bridge will be played in the palm room of the hotel, and whist and five hundred in the tea room. The com mittee in charge for the affair is Mrs. W. W. McCormick, Mrs. Lawrence Jensen Mrs. E. S.
