Fritz Leiber is Real Star; Play Scores Big Hit Eugene theatergoers seeing Hamlet Saturday night at the ileilig theater have a memory of one ot a Cham ot masterpieces that come in a life time. And In thoi words of those who time and time again have aeea the presen tation of the play, Fritz Leiber is ranking among the best in the inter pretation of .Shakespeare. , That Shnkespenre BtUl lives w.is demonstrated at the play. And yet one of the delightful things about the presentation is, it seems, almost of modern drama, and still brings under standing, appreciation, and satisfac tion of a Shakespearean production. So extremely natural and realistic aifl the Hcrnes and acting that noone has to excuse and remember it is not a modern drama. Fritz Leiber is wonderful in the play j a well-trained and likable voice, and acting that is I he true art of acting. His interpretation of the soli" loquy was the fulfillment, of antici pation for. those who went in many oases to see that scene alone. An minimal and unexpected tiling Is that "the supporting, cast is all good. Stars the stars but the remaining cast can be anything as a rule. The rapi dity Willi which the play progresses is also unusual and remarkable for Hamlet. No intermission exceeds three minutes. The stage settings and-costumes are .very colorful,' and yet have aim iilicily anu taste, lacking entirely any glare or gtudiness. A brunetto Oshe lia is a surprise, but she redeems herself by a remarkable acting and a glorofied voice. Her interpretation of the mad scene is a masterpiece of acting. She is perliups the sbnde best of any 'of the supporting cast. E ELKS NOTICE d- bc present.
