Market notes Egg quotations are posted at previous levels on the local dairy exchange but the market continues to reflect firm undertone. Buyers are paying 33c for white extras, 32c for brown extras, and 28c for' pullet extras. Current receipts 30c Portland. Butter is steady and unchanged. The nay market Is maintaining s steady tone with plenty offered ana buyers Inclined to hang back. Movement continues good, how ever, at current prices. Buyers offering $15 to $16 for alfalfa at shipping points; eastern Oregon timothy bringing $2323.50 a ton Portland for the best; valley tim othy worth $21; oat and vetch $17; cheat $14.5015.00; clover $14 to $15; oat hay $16; straw $7.50 delivered Portland. Cooler weather with threatening rain put a damper on the fruit trade in the local market today. Melons especially suffered from the easier demand and prices were promptly lowered. , Best Turlock cantaloupes are now down to $3.25 on standard crates with ponies at $3.50 and flats at $1.25 a crat,e. Fancy, hard, ripe Burrel gems from The Dalles contlnuf) to bring $3.75 and $4 a crate. Watermelons, casabas and hon eydews were also in lighter de mand with a wide range of prices being quoted in the wholesale produce markets. Peach prices continue firm with fancy, large sized Crawfords from The Dalles higher at $1.16 to $1.25 a box. Elbertas range from $1.00 to $1.25 with olvells at $1.25 to $1.50. , . The muscat grapes are being offered by Pacific Fruit and Pro duce company at $1.75 a lug box. Fancy, jumbo size, huckleber ries from tha 'Washington woods, are offered at 25 cents a pound. Other wild huckleberries are Bell ing as low as 13 cents a pound. Potato market is a trifle weak er with $2.25 the .extreme top on fancy new stock. Hop market is steady. Government 4s, $106.31. Suicide Attempted By Woman Who Sued Ex-Police Officer LOS ANGELES, Cal., Aug. 13. Mrs. Clarlotte M. Lex,' who last week brought Buit for $50,000 against Au gust Vollmer of Berkeley, formerly Los Angeles chief of police, for al leged breach of promise to wed and asserted seduction, was recovering here today following her attempt at suicide. Mrs. Lex took poison and then turned on the gas, she told police, and then became so ill she decided to call her physician. Instead, a tele phone girl called' the police, who found MrB. Lex seriously ill. Suicidal notes found in the Lex anartment said that Vollmer's action in making public "thing" she - had told him caused her to make the sui cide attempt.
