The kaiser's people still hypnotised by the glamour of militarism, are willing to accept greater sacrifices than is Austria-Hungary. The necesssry inference is that the Austro-Hungarians have be gun to fall away from military worship. By attacking the food regulatlona of the militarists, they have secured more food for themselves. This part of the lesson may suddenly come home to the underfed masses of Germany. Washington, June 21. American aero planes, equipped with Rolls-Royce en gines and piloted by aviators of the allied nations, will crosa the Atlantic within three months, Major-General W. Branker stated, probably would be made from Newfoundland to Portugal, via the Azores. Seven hundred and fifty horse power airplanes carrying crewa of three or four men will be used. In discussing the proposed flights. General Branker declared that the mat ter had been brought to the attention of the war and navy departments and that thia government was in favor of the venture. "Once thia enterprise hss been estab lished," General Branker said, "Ameri ca's output of big bombing machine can proceed to Europe by air and so save shipping that ia so invaluable for other purposes. This may seem a wild statement. But ia 1014 the flight of the English channel was considered a wonderful and dangerous performance." Crass I Fsw Hoars, Flying at the rate of 85 miles an hour, a conservative speed, sot taking into consideration unfavorable winds, air planes can reach the Asores in less than 40 hours, according to calculation of flying experts. General Branker st?ated. The trip from the Azorea to Portugal about 800 mile would be comparatively imple matter after that From Portugal the plane can easily fly to Italy or any other part of the battle front. The American Liberty motor ha not been sufficiently tested to warrant ita uee in trans-Atlantic flight. Several Rolls-Boyc engines will be imported fox the initial flight, which, unless the unex pected happens, will probably be at tempted in September or October. So certain are the allies that the trans Atlantic flights will be successful that -aey are planning their coming air pro grama on this method of transporting lanes to Franc. Possibilities Unlimited. The possibilities before aircraft which can make non-stop flights from New foundland to the Azores, about S.200 miles, are unlimited. Bombing raids over the interior cities of Germany will be the logical result Upon America mora than any other nations rests the responsibility and op portunity of pushing the advantages of aerial supremacy to th utmost. General Brsnker stated. "The air offensive against Germany has now definitely started and will grow ateadily in volume and efficiency," he added. "By degrees, all the vital points of Germany will com within our reach." Th British are depending entirely the Liberty motor for the carrying through of their air program for a year to come, insofar as bombing, recon naissance and photographing machines are concerned. ". We will want thousands snd thou sands ot them," General Branker said.
