kind you'd prefer would be those that come out of the can
whole. Nice, firm, meaty, red-ripe tomatoes looking as
though they'd just been picked from the vine. That's the
kind of canned tomatoes this store carries Preferred Stock.
The Santa Clara Valley, of California, produces the best to
matoes. Thry grow, down there, to almost perfection.
Mostly meat and very firm when ripe. They are canned the
same day thry are picked at one of the finest canneries in Cal
ifornia right where they are
grown. This rapid work of get
ting them from the vines into the
cans is responsible for the preser
vation of the frcsh-from-the-vine
flavor of Preferred Stock toma
toes. Th entire line of Preferred Stock
Canned Goods always measures up
to this same high standard

Best of Everything
That is why the customers of this
store are always satisfied. They
know that no matter what they or
der they are sure to get the best.
It means a great deal to our cus
tomers and it means a great deal to
us. As an illustration of the qual
ity lines we carry, let us consider
canned tomatoes. Probably there
are more tomatoes used than any
other item of canned vegetables.
Often you have opened a can of
tomatoes that looked like soup. Not
a very appetizing sight, surely. The

THINGS TO EAT IN
EUGENE'S MARKETS
Southern Strawberries, Aspar
agus, Cauliflower and Rhu
barb Tempt Housewife
Oh, you ripe, juicy strawberry;
California and K.uthorn strawber
ries, real berries, too, made their
first appearance In the Eugene
Mores doing the week, and arc
tempting the hpusewife toward lux
ury. They are only 1 cent a blto.
Vwi'Dly-flve strawberries for 25
tents, just like eating money. But
they taste every bit as goon as the
copper. California strawberries are
still a little early yet and some of
jt'ie berries In the shop windows aie
from tho fields of Louisiana. When
strawberries are shipped 200( miles
oi more no wonder they cost two
bits a box.
Home-grown asparagus as made
Its first appearance In the grocery
stores, .and local grown rhubarb of
the best grade Is in the store win
(lows.
Tho feed arid ,hi;y markets have
remulnod practically the same dur
ing tho past week, but a change up
ward Is expected In prices during
th next six days. This is based
upon the largo amount of construc
tion work and spring work that Is
Increasing tho demand rapidly. The
prices ore already, far from low,
barley now belug quoted at 30
cents.
In the ment market there has been
little change. Pork and weal have
fallen off as a result of a fluctua
tion in the demand, but the change
is slight. Prices at the various
markets are varying between a con
siderable range, and It is hard to
quote a retail price.
