The city council met Monday night at its first session under tho new regime. At this meeting the two new members' took their places. These were Wei-, by Stevens and Mr. Mathews. At this same meeting E. E. Morrison and John Mullln were inducted Into the offices of the city treasurer and recorder respectively. No other busi ness was taken up at this meeting and after discussing municipal af fairs the body adjourned. $100 CLOCK FREE Jasper N. Miller, who resides on a homestead near Butte Falls, Jack son county, has been visiting at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Sebas tian Miller, on South Willamette street for the past few weeks, re turning home last night. He is the oldest school teacher In Jackson county and one of the oldest in the state, having been engaged at that work since the pioneer days. While In Eugene, Mr. Miller spent a great deal of his time at the University of Oregon and the Eugene public schools, and wishes to thank the members of the faculty of the Uni versity, Principal Hug, of the High school and many other teachers in the public schools for courtesies shown him. He was very favorably tmiiroccort with iha mnnlipr in which the local schools are conducted and says he has never visited schools which employ more modern methods than in use here. - Mr. Miller waB in Eugene 43 years ago and this Is his first visit here since.
