Some seven or eight years ago Mr. Jeffries was the the leading man in his line'of work. Business was good and his profits were big. Having all the money he could handle at the time, he concluded to take a rest. To be sure, he planned to get into the field again at at the proper time. But everything was rosy and there really seemed no good and sufficient reason why he should spend so many hours a day keeping his muscles lithe and strong and his wind good and his heart and nerves in trim. 4 XX XX XX XX XX xt XX xt XX XX XX XI XX XT. ROOSEVELT'S MAGAZINE BARRED FROM SALE AT !: HUTCHINSON, KANSAS Hutcfclman, Kan., July 21. The latest Issue of the Outlook Magazine has been barred from sale in this city because of an editorial article written by Theodore Roosevelt. Recently an ordinance was passed by the city council prohibiting prize fight pic tures, newspapers containing stories of prize fights, and magazine, books or pamphlets containing articles or references to pugilistic combats.. Be cause of the editorial oomment In the Outlook on the Reno prize fight, the magazine came In conflict with the ordinance and the publication was barred from sale. Gigantic aa tne are, they will be pasd in sue nnd in LHQiil hf inH IWU Tt Eventually the meeting with Mr. Johnson was ar- ft ranged. Mr. Jeffries was still tolerably content with wh&t he had done. Brother, a has-done is about as bad as a has-been. Mr, Jeffries did not care to stand up in the training ring and punch and take punches. He did not see any ft necessity of practicing side-steps and feints and rushes. He knew all about them. Why, seven years ago he had done all of that he ever needed to do. Mr. Johnson did not overlook the boxing and wrest- j, ling and the clinching and the side-stepping, etc. . . JJ As a result Mr. Jeffries received Mr. Johnson's com- J pliments on the point of the jaw and his business career J closed. J Advertising a business is the training of that busi- J nesa. Advertising keeps a business healthy. $. It tones up its liver, strengthens its biceps, steadies its heart and keeps its nerves in order. ' Once in a while a man decides that he is doing so much business that he can stop advertising for a while and run on momentum. Momentum is the gradual process toward a full stop. The momentum business is usually prematurely full stopped by the straight left jab of the well-trained com petitor who finds his opening in the fifteenth round. If you want to stay in business stay in the advertis ing field. You might as well out off your legs because you are running well in a footrace as to cut off your advertising ucuttuao jruur uubiiiubh ib voo gooa. You might as well tell the insurance man that you are so healthy you will drop the policy for a few years as to stop advertising because the orders are piling up. "Don't need to" is the eventual preliminary to "Can't do it." The only policy holder who doesn't need to pay his premiums is dead. Mr. Jeffries don't need to train any more. He is licked. 8 XX XX XX XX v. XX xt xt r. xt xt XX XX ii tt X. XX X HOUSEHOLD GOODS SACRIFICED, ALMOST NEW, AT 737 OAK ST. X Little Soimd Advice Will Help Miuiy a Sufferer 1m Eugene, EUGENE DAILY GUARD THE UPPER WILLAMETTE VALLEY'S GREATEST NEWSPAPER 8 :: xx 4 XX XX XX XX No woman can ue healtky and well if the kidneys are sick. Poisons that pass off In the secretions 'When the kidneys are well are retained In the body when the kidneys are sick. Kid neys and bladder become Inflamed and swollen and worse ' tno-ubles quickly follow. This is often the true cause of bearing down pains, laruenes;', backache, sldeache etc. Uric poisoning also causes head aches, dizzy spells, langour, nervous ness and rheumatic pain. When suffering so, try Doan's Kid ney I'llls, a remedy that cures sick kidneys. You will get better as the kidneys get better, and health will return when the kidneys are well. Let a Eugene woman tell you about Doan's Kidney I'llls. Mrs. J. D. Moon, 112 Lawrence street, Eugene, Oregon, says: "1 am only too glad to recommend Doan's Kidney Tills. The Mauretania and Lusitania are vessels of 32,000 tons and a length, of 762 feet. The Olympic and Il- taulc will each have a tonnage or 45,000 and a length of SGC0 feet. Work on the latter vessels Is pro gressing rapidly at Belfast, and the Olympic will be ready for launching within three .months. AH the Iron work of the structure I? completed to the shelter deck, which is the highest continuous deck in the ship, and the bridge deck plating and riveting is well advanced. An idea of the pro gress of the shell sidelights are al ready fitted In the vessel. The erec tion of stateroom framing on some oi the decks ia also well under way. An important item in such a huge vessel is, of course, the stairways, and already those of the second and third, class are completed up to the shelter i deck. The main first-class stairway! will excel anything yet seen in tne art. of the shipbuilder. Internal work is proceeding in connection 'With the fit ting of sanitary and air pipes, tank suction, water-tight doors, etc. Perhaps the most interesting news of all, however, is that the lying launchwavs are fitted fore and aft, and the builders have commenced putting the siding ways into place. Thus early are they preparing for the launching, which will take place in October. The shell plating and deck plating of the Titanic are also well under way. Quite an airniy of workmen Is emnlnved both day and night on these vessels, and In the various shops connected with them every day marks an important advance in construction. The construction of the machinery is keeping pace with that of the hull. another"strike made in bohemia Cottage Grore, Or., July 21. M. F. The ledge Is about eight feet wide from wall to wall, with a two-foot pay streak, cou-J talning gold, copper, lead and silver, and Is pronounced by experienced miners to be as good as any ore ever brought out of Bohemia. Mr. Wyatt and son have been doing development work on this group for the past six years, driving on the vein for 200 feet and tapping the ore shoot at that distance. pTlANISH THOSE GRAY HAIR?
