federal court to enforce the rights of
ownership and control of the ijrop-
erty by the Methodist Church Soutn
and to force the present trustees to
accept the three trustees elected at
the recent general conference in
Ashevllle, N. C. This is the situation
in the controversy that has raged
around the university for the past
five years.
William K. Vanderbilt, head ot the
great family that has so liberally en
dowed this Methodist institution, has
openly espoused the cause of the
trustees who are in rebellion against
the church 8 authority, and has writ
ten Chancellor Klrkland a letter in
