The parties , who brought in these "toppers" were. likewise Interested in the commission' trade, but did not believe it was the business of the livestock growers to know what price was in effect. How ever the majority of the commission trade gives the trne price to shippers through The Journal at all times, and when one small dealer balks at publicity it does nut hurt general conditions here. There was quite a liberal run of cattle in the yards during tie past 24 hours, a total supply of 490 head being received. This compares with 617 head Monday, 79 Saturday, 15a Friday, 200 Thursday and 349 last Wednesday. A week ago today cat tle arrivals at Stockdale were 242 head. 1 all interested in SK- Local Agent. The hay market shows a very "firm front, . particularly ion alfalfa. The country Is well sold' up on hayj ana tne aemaua is -exceedingly gooa, both here and in the interior. The have been buying heavily. ' Waiting Hop Market The hop market was very dull yesterday, but conditions are such now that a quiet spell has no effect on Its strength. In other years pause in the trading would bring out' liberal offering, but this year holders see no cause for uneasiness In a ubsidence of the demand. No new sales were reported yesterday but the Seavy Hop Company took in several small lots at Aurora, aggre gating over 100 bales. A wire from Ohico Cal., states that the Valentine Brewing Company, of Newark, N. J., has purchased the en tire product of the American-Hop & Barley Co.'s hopfields at Nord, near Chico. Immediate shipment of the product was asked. The price was not made public. The brewing com pany caters largely to New York City trade. .London cables yesterday reported a quite but firm market. So says Ed Herren, the buyer at that place. "Picking is pretty scarce in the Woodburn district at this time," savs Mr. Herren to the Journal. "The few lots remaining there are bein? sold for higher prices." Hop market in general is rather quiet locality, although several sales have recentiv been made here to the east on the basis of 26c to growers of choice goods. ltoguo Hiver Apples Coining Apple receipts for the day includ ed a shipment of Rogue River Kings and Twenty-ounce Pippins, which were put on tlie market at $1.7o a box.
