If Queen Al-t-xanJra of Kngland was Blven to airing her opinions in the columns of l he press, a discussion between her majesty and Margaret Illlnirton on woman's proper snhere would make interesting reading, for Alexandra Is more than a queen, she Is a woman wno thinks for herself, and her ideas are not homespun, either. She does not favor stocking darning for great stage artists, nor does she believe In the niarry-and-settle-down-to-family- raising luea. in a letter received here recently her views have for the first time become publicly known. The letter from her protege. Ade line Oenee, whose dancing so charmed the Queen that she brought her to the great garden party with which the Ixmdon social season closed. Genee danced and was made a great pet of. After that the Queen had a long talk with the danseuse. con gratulated her upon her engagement to marry, and then spoke her mind. I here Is nobody who dances like you." she said. "For this reason 1 will not hear of your retiring from the stage upon the occasion' of your marriage. icu simply must not." Now. fienee is a royal little Dane and such an expression from the sis ter of her King she considers the equivalent of a command. (ienee is to be with us here In New York right soon when she begins re hearsals for "A Silver Stnr." She surely will not retire for three years having a contract for that period with Klaw & Erlanger. Springer's Grand Opera House will open the season tomorrow evening. The attraction will 'be "The Girl from Hector's," Paul M. Potter's comedy. The original cast will be seen here during the engagement. The ensu ing season marks .Mf. Springer's tenth as manager of this play house. in conjunction with this theatre he will also oerate the Grand Opera House. Uroolyn, the opening of which will occur on August 30. with "The Hound I'p" as the attraction. After two years away from the footlights, Adeie Ititche will resume her earner as a Bnialway musical comedy star 1 n Planquette's "The Paradise of .Mahomet." which will be produced early this season by Hie Sliuberts. She 1h to have the part of iitMigaiin.a young widow, the heroine of tlio piece. It was only ufter much persuasion that she was induced to return to tho foot lights. "The Paradise of Mahomet" has the distinction of being the last score written by 'Plnuquetto, the composer of "The Chimes or Normandy," and though it haa never been done in En glish, enjoyed a great success In Paris. The American version of the book and the lyrics are by Hurry U. Smith and Hubert H. Smith. Work on the production Is well under way, and tho oriental scenory will be lav ish. Jtalph llerz Is to be featured In tho production. "The Only Law," now playing at tho llackett Theatre, has established a precedent In theatricals. It is us ual with the production of a new musical comet jr to hear the theatre going iiuhllo whistling tho various airs that have proved popular, but today one hoars line after line quot ed from "The Only 'Uw." Some of these lines are so bright and wlttv mat iney snouiil take a permanent place In the up-to-date metropolitan vernacular. The play Is one of modern life, a departure for Mr. Mrs. Carter. Re hearsals have already begun, but the cast nas not been flnnally deter mined. The play is to be elaborate ly staged and much la promised for It. Mrs. Carter has written a version of her own of "Camille" and will present It at special matinees during the coming season. "Kassa," the John Carter Long play which cost Mis. Carttr so considerable a sum last year Is also in rehearsal, as Mrs. Carter has changed her mind. In addition to the plays named above, Mrs. Carter holies to be able to present "Macbeth" this season. Ever since she became her own man ager It has been her ambition to en act the role of Lady Macbeth, and in selecting her company this year she has chosen players -competent to ap pear in Shakespearian production. Curiously enough. Mrs. Leslie Car ter has never witnessed a perform ance of "Macbeth," a fact that she does not deplore, as she believes It win enable her to nlav the role un hampered by tradition. Mrs. Car-! ter's production of ".Macbeth" will! pronauiy ue made ont of town, but Iti Is ber firm iuteutiou to present It1 during her New York engagement. ! i ITCHING SEEMED TO BE INCURABLE Terrible Red Patches on Face and Arms Made Victim Ashamed to be Seen Suffered Intensely for Ten Months Expert Treatment Gave No Relief Two Sets of the CUTICURA REMEDIES ENTIRELY CURED HER j: H "About two years ago I contracted eczema and suffered intensely for about ten month.
