ANOTHER FIRE AT ALBANY YESTERDAY Albany, Or., Aug. 13. Fire broke out nt 3 o'clock yesterday morning In the dry kiln of M. J. Cameron & Son's sash find door factory of this city. No Insurance was carried on that part of the plant. M. J. Camer on stated this morning that he placed too much sawdust and shavings in the furnace. He said that he filled the dry kiln last evening, with door and window stock, and in the morn ing started up the fire In the boiler. While he was up town his aorf was left to take care of the boiler, and It is believed he played too much saw dust and shavings Into the furnace, causing the fire to jump out and ig nite the wood nearby. Several streams of water were put on the flames and the main plant, only a few feet distant. was kept from danger of the fire. The firm will re build the dry kiln at once. The loss is about $1500. Thcuigh the weather has been altogether too cool to annihilate the pests aud to destroy the honeydew, the reports of the growers generally are that those who have sprayed thoroughly will pick a prime grade of hops in this district. There was not a single warm day In tho month of July, and so far dur ing this month the weather has been so cool that the lice have been able to flourish and Increase rapidly. Only persistent spraying will de stroy the pests on the crop. Hot weather would do the work, but the weather hag a tendency to be cooler Instead of warmer. Those yards that have been sprayed recently are look ing better than the others. - It is belelved by the growers the condition of the market at this time warrants a higher price for the 1909 crop than Is being offered. Western buyers have been doing most of the buying so far, but seem to have agreed to suspend activities for the time being In an endeavor to quiet the market. The growers will not sell for 20 cents any more, however, being confident that better prices will be offered when the crop is gathered. COTTAGE GROVE MEN ON STATE RIFLE TEAM Cottage Grove.
