Evening in Good Health, Committed Self Destruction After Retiring . The death of Ruth Annette Seales, the flfteen-year-oid daughter of Mrs. Jessie Seales, at Lorane early Monday morning, as-mentioned In yesterday's Guard, was caused by strychnine ta ken with suicidal intent, is the con clusion reached by Coroner W. T. Gordon and Dr. J. W. Harris, coun ty health officer, who made an inves tigation of the case today. The girl died ait her home about 1 o'clock Monday morning, after hav ing suffered from convulsions and spasms four hours. At that time the cause of death was not known, but Coroner Gordon, who was called In the capacity of undertaker, thought the symptoms were those of poison ing, and communicated his opinion to Dr. Harris, with the result that the two drove to Lorane this morn ing and made an investigation, prov ing beyond a doubt that it was a case of suicide by poisoning. The girl had been away from home Sunday afternoon and return ed about 7 o'cloek. She retired a few minutes before nine, and was follow ed by her mother five or ten minutes later, both sleeping In the same bed. The girl at once went Into spasms tfnd before a' physician could arrive she died. ' Dr. Hartls and Coroner Cordon found today that the elrl had several times threatened suicide because of a 'trivial toffense committed some time ago! and for which she was se verely reprimanded by her mother. It seems that the matter weighed heavily upon her mind and it is thought that she committed the rash act because she thought the little of fense was a disgrace to her and her family. A bottle containing strychnine." which had been used as squirrel poi son, was found In the room where the girl slept, and while it was nearly full when Mrs. Seales last noticed it. It was almost empty at the time of the girl's death. . . The Seales girl lived in Eugene from the middle of February until the middle of June this year, attend ing one of the public schools. It was while here that the offense which weighed so heavily upon her mind was committed. It was nothing dis graceful, and one which a great manv children would commit, but the girl was no doubt of a very sensitive na ture and could not stand to be rep rimanded for her trivial wrong-doing.
