Four Important contests to estab lish the supremacy in rifle marks manship of the various organizations are provided, together witn a maicn for revolver marksmen. The com uetltlon will onen August 1 and will continue until August 3, or until the matches are completed. The four i.mportint rifle matches named In the orders .are the state tronhv match, the state medal match. the state Individual match and the Governor's trophy match. The one about which the greatest interest centers la the Governor's trophy match, inasmuch as it will establish the regimental championship. Here tofore these laurels have gone to the Fourth Regiment, of Southern Ore gon, owing to the better facilitios for preliminary practice on the Southern Oregon rifle ranges. This year, however, the Third Infantry lias had the advantage c-f the new Clackamas range and Is confident of a different outcome. I his matcn will be hard fought and it will be hard to ni-k the winner in advance. although the Southern Oregon com mand would seem to have a slight advantage. BAD FIRE IN THE BUSINESS DISTRICT JJARROWLY AVERTED Blaze in Bear of Brownsville Woolen Mill Store at Early Hour This Morning What might have been a BeriouS fire in the business aisirici w -rowly averted early this morning. At Abont 2:30 o'clock a blaze was seen Issuing from th8 corrugated iron warehouse in the rear of the Jake Berger building, occupied by the Brownsville Woolen Mill store. An alarm was sent In and the depart ment responded in quick order, soon extinguishing the flames. The inte rior of the warehouse was pretty bad ly damaged, but the loss is nominal, as there was nothing of value in the building. A window leading from the warehouse to the woolen mill store had been left open and had the fire gained a little more headway be fore being discovered, the store might have burned. As it was, the room was filled with smoke, but no dam age was done to the goods. The cause of the firo Is hard to determine, but it is thought to have been incendiary, as there had been no one in the warehouse for several days.
