the worldly viewpoint of the sub
ject, and also the spiritual side.
"No life has amounted to anything
of consequence," said the speaker,
"unless there has been some purpose
to hold the personality to one end.
The Individual who would do any
thing," he continued, addressing the
senior class, "must have some cen
tral Idea, a trifle egotistic it may be,
but wholly necessary."
The bishop said further that life
Is full of purposes, and while the hu
man beings on earth may but rarely
see the endB, there Is always an eter
nal plan in which all things work.

fessor Carson was recently elected

Coast. She accepted the position,
and the reception was in honor of
her work during the last score of
years at the University.
This evening the faculty ot the
school of music will give their clos
ing annual recital. The program
will be varied and excellent.
