The changes resulting from last fall's referendum on the liquor question In New Hampshire were put into effect today, with the result that the pro hibition territory in this state is largdv Increased. There are now but 25 of the 230 towns -In New Hampshire in which saloons or wholesale liquor places can be main tained. These 2n towns Had a total population of but 2a. 40", according to the last census. The total popu lation of all the towns In the state was ab?ut 250,000, so that as re gards the towns by population, more than seven-eigths of them are now no-license. Six of the oleven cities, having an aggregate population of 50,000, are altti uo-llconse, so that including the large cities, about two thirds of all the people of the state are living in r.-license territory. Proviucetown, Mass., May 1.- Work was resumed this week upon the Pilgrim Memorial Monument, which is u-jing erected ort Town Hill to murk the first-landing piaca of the Pilgrims. The tower lias now reached a height of nearly 200 feet. The entire height will he 250 feet above the ground level, or 350 feet above the level of the sea. It is be lieved that the walls, 'belfry, and roof will be completed 'before' t'he Fourth of July, and that the enlire structure' will be completed before next winter. The monument prob ably will be dedicated in the summer of 1910, upon the anniversary of the sailing of the Pilgrim company from Southhampton. President Taft has been invited to be present on that occasion and he has accepted provisionally.
