out of existence yesterday afternoon
about 3 o'clock, the new firm being

the news that her sister's husband.

Club committee which has In charge
the matter of presenting the bill to
tho legislature for the formation of
the new county of N'esmlth, has com
piled the following figures:
-Total area, 1966 square miles.
Total assessed valuation, $4.

Total number of school children.

county at the same rate a revenue of
$58,991.20, 7.30 mills of this amount
being county tax, or $36,033.78. for
the proposed now county.

aries: Clerk, per annum $1200
Sheriff, per annum 1200
Treasurer, per annum 100
County Judge, per annum .... 600
Assessor, per annum 900
School superintendent 400
Total fixed salaries.. $4400
Two county commissioners at $3
per day each for actual time served.
Coroner's salary paid by fees.
The salaries of the above county
officers are practically a duplicate of
the Hood River county officers.
The probable cost of officers' sal
aries per year, Including commission
er and coroner, will not exceed 45,
600. This amount deducted from $36,
083.78 leaves a balance of $30,633.78
for public service.

Pleasant Hill, Jan. 10. It seems
as though thciow has come to stay
with us for awhile. Thus far 4 de
grees abovo zero u the coldest we
have heard of In this vicinity.
Attendance at school has been poor
for the pnst week on account of the
cold weather.
Those on the R. F. D. have not re
ceived nny mall for several days ow
ing lo the carrier not being able to
get over Ihe route. When flying ma
chines come Into general uso we hope
to not be troubled In this way.
Sleighing parties are to be seen
quite frequently, and up to the pres
ent we have heard of only one acci
dent that of the Cook-Mitchell
sleigh party, who had the misfortune
to wreck their sleigh and had to walk
part of the way home and finish the
trip In a wagon.
