Maude Adams will make her first appearance in J. M. Barrle's new play, "What Every Woman Knows, at the Empire theatre. New York, on Monday, December 21, and will re main there eight weeks. . Dec. 18. Mm. Colgaard has purchased a large mule team to do his freighting. Mrs. Sam McCutcheon and Mrs. Mae Lee are reported sick at this writing. The citizens of Elmira are talk ing of numbering their stores, so when the young people of Smlthfield come up to basket socials they won't get lost in the town; also expect to! extend tne culverts clear across the streets so that they can not run off them and hurt themselves. There will be a basket social at the hall on December 18. Preparations have been hegun for a Christmas entertainment at the Baptist church. Sam Flint of Junction was In our midst buying beef and mutton past of last week. Jim Baker, of Irving, was out visit ing relatives and hunting ducks the last of the week.
