Columbus. O., Nov. 27 Today was
the forty-fifth anniversary of the es
cape of General John II. Morgan, the
famous "raider," ana Thomas II.
Hines from the penitentiary In this
city. The sensation which the es
cape of I he famous prisoners of war
created Is still fresh in the minds of
the older generations of both North
and South.
The cell from which General .Mor
gan escaped is still pointed out to
visitors to the penitentiary. The

the escape was effected is still to be
seen. Some years ngo a tablet com

above the cell door. Since the day
of Morgan's escape the cell has never
been occupied.

eral Morgan hailed a passing cab and
was driver, to the depot. He took
a train for Cincinnati, nnd from
there crossed the Ohio river into
