Preston. THANKSGIVING SERVICE AT CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH Union Meeting at 10:45 a. m. Good Musical Pro gram Union Thanksgiving services will be held this year on Thursday morn ing at 10:45 o'clock at the Congre gational church, corner of West Sev enth and Charnelton streets. Rev. H. N. Mount, pastor of the Central Presbyterian church, will preach the sermon and a joint choir will furnish the music. Miss Louise Yo ran will sing a solo. This service Bhould be a largely attended one. The successful carrying out of the movement for a Y. M. C. A. building will have added greatly to the rea sons for gratitude on the part of all citizens of Eugene. The year has been one of great prosperity and peculiar blessings to our city. Architect Hunzlcker, of this city, is drawing plans for a ti-room bun galow to be built in Portland by Mrs. W. G. Espey, of that city. Material for building the sidewalk along the Hovey building at Eighth and Willamette streets up to grade is being delivered on the ground. The town clock in the courthouse tower stopped at 1:35 o'clock this af ternoon and has not run since. It it Is not started we will all forget when to go home for dinner. After that time the light service will be much better In Eugene. Attorney M. Vernon Parsons has a fine mounted elk's head In his office in the Beckwith block. The animal was killed by Jesse Bonds In the Sluslaw country this fall and the head was mounted by R. W. Veatch, the taxidermist. Buchholz & Carpenter, the well drillers, in sinking a well on the Patzner place, on Spencer Creek, struck a flow of mineral water at a depth of 230 feet. A sample of the water was brought to The Guard of fice. It has a peculiar taste and is un like any mineral water that we have ever tasted. J. O. Davis, national lecturer of the Modern Woodmen of America, and J. W. Simmons, state deputy, passed through Eugene this afternoon for Cottage Grove, where Mr. Davis will address the camp ot that order tonight. The Eugene camp had a chance to secure the national lectur er for an address, but turned It down. Charles E. Harris, of. Silk creek, was was brought down from Cot tage Grove for examination as to his sanity, was examined last. even ing and committed to the insane asylum. Drs. W. Kuykendall and D. A. Paine were the examining phy sicians. Harris is aged 54 years and is single. This is his second commitment. G. E. Kress was given a party at his home on East Twelfth street last night In honor of the 74th anniver sary of his birth. Five of his com rades of the Civil wrr were invited and after partaking of a splendid Hipper and cloying a social evening they presented Mr. Kress with a pres ent as a token of esteem and regard in which he is held by them. PrDf. I. M. Glen states that his classes at the University are very wfill attended,. Other classes of the University are much better attended than was expected last week. O. A. "Colonial Jack," who Is making a tour around the border of the Unit ed States with a wheelbarrow, will arrive In Eugene from the north on Thursday of this week. He Is walk ing and pushing his wheelbarrow contrivance in which he carries ar ticles of necessities.
