"Miss Lamb kept me running for water all the time; she couldn't get enough water," said the girl nurse. Julia George, aged 17. who had left I a cannery to get a "job" In the At-! wood sanitarium, when questioned ! about her care of Miss Lninb. "Were you told to give her water or not to do so?" asked the coroner. "No sir," replied the witness. ' Two girls who had been employed In the sanitarium for a short, time were put on the witness stand, and their replies to questions asked, them showed very clearly the absence of ordinary precautions as to the care of patients, especially those who had just passed through operations, as had Miss Lamb when she "kept the nurse running for water all the time." Perhaps the most astonishinir of i all the testimony was the statement ot the etiorge girl, who said that Miss Lamb, who had been under chloroform during the operation per formed October H. the day after she arrived at the sanitarium, was left to lie on her bed unattended until she recovered consciousness and was able to ring the bell. The nurse declared that she did not. then know that any operation had been performed. The younger Alwood admitted on the stand that a number of signed statements similar to that made by Miss Lamb, who first called herself Gladys Johnson, had been received and kept in their office. Some of these, he said, gave the names of the doctors who had performed the orig inal operations. The elder Atwood was recalled to the stand and said that alt statements Involving other physicians 'had been destroyed iby him. The verdict was that death was the result of a criminal operation com mitted by some one unknown to the jury. Journal.
