Interest In the Gunness murder cases, which ex cited the attention of the entire coun try last spring, will be revived next week when Hay Lntnpncre. alleged to have been the rlKht-hand man of Mrs. Bella Gunness In conducting her murder farm, is placed on trial. Lani phere is under Indictment for the murder of Mrs. Gunness and her three children by burning her farm house and is charced also with com plicity In the killing of several of the woman's victims. II is probable the youth will be tried first for the murder of Mrs. Gunness, although the prosecuting attorney claims to have a very strong case against him on the chargo of complicity In the murder of Andrew Helgeleln. Ilelgeleln, who was a South Da kota farmer, came here with $2.!K)0 after a correspondence with Mrs. Gunness and was never more heard of. He was but one of a dozen or more men who are believed to have fallen victims to the woman's wiles. In addition to the murder of Hel .L I Wim geleln. Lamphere Is cnargea complicity in the murders of several others, but the killing or neiKe.em,, hinh u ald to have occurred Janu-I, ary 14, last. Is believed to furnish the strongest case against him. The destruction ot tne uun house and the burning of the widow, and her three children occurred on the night of April 28. It came as a. climax to a strenuous nrauwiw bv a brother as to the whereabouts of Albert Helgeleln. who Is belleven to f have been the last victim of Mrs., Gunness. Helgeleln was lured to the, Gunness farm through a matrimonial advertisement. After his arrival he was Induced to turn into the woman's hands nearly 13.000. which he had, earned as a rancher on his section of; land near Aberdeen. S. r.
