The skin in an index to the quality of the blood. Eczema, Acne, Tetter,
pimples, ftjslies. eruptions, etc., show that some unhealthy humor or acid
impurity diseasing and corrupting the circulation, so that instead ol
supplying nourish Qnt and strength to the fine, delicate tissues of the skin,
it is continually pouring out its acrid and unhealthy accumulations.
External applications of salves, washes, lotions, etc., may relieve some of
the itching and other discomfort caused by skin troubles, and for this reason
should be used, but such treatment cannot reach the hunior-laden blood,
and therefore cannot cure. A thorough cleansing of the lxl is the only
cure for skin diseases. S. S. S., a purely vegetable preparation, is the best
and quickest remedy. ' It goes down into the circulation and neutralizes
and removes the acids, impurities and humors, thoroughly purifies the
circnlation and permanently cures skin diseases of egry kind. When
S. S. S. has driven the humors and impurities from theIood, and cooled
and cleansed the acid-heated circulation, every symptom passes away, the
skin is again nourished with rich, healthful blood and the trouble cured, at
the cause has been removed. Book on skin diseases and any medical advice

(Dr. W. W. Oglesby in Cottage Grpve

The corrupt public sentiment that
allows and even santloi.a in men
what it will not tolerate in women,
that will make an outcast of woman
and sink her to the lowest depths,
and excuse man, guilty of the same
sin, thus placing the garland of re-
snectabllity over man ana uie iieumo
of shame and disgrace over woman,
is a relic of the dark ages. It was
born in the age of evil propensity, be
fore the dawn of the Christian era.
After the march of civilization for
many centuries it still casts Its sha
dow of darkness over our social
syBtem. Its gloom may be seen in
nvnrv -palm nf sociev. deflecting the
rays of Chrlstlanltv and obscuring
the light of Intelligence by the
clouds of prejudice. In our Chris
tian land a young man may go asiraj
and sow his wild oats, associate u
the vile, dissipate his manhood and
alnlr An ll.. lowont HPIlthS of Bin. and
when tired of his life of shame the
prodigal may return, repent ana join
the temperance slciety, and the doors
of society, of the lodges and the
churches are thrown open to him.
Their altars are spread before him,
the arms of society are thrown
around him, the white 4iand of Inno
cence is extended to welcome him,
the tears and cheers of society greet
him. He can even lead to the altar
as his bride the purest girl in the
land, and the church and state will
combine to unite the red and vile
heart of the sinner with the white
hand and pure heart of the saint.
If the lenlencv shown men was truly
an expression of charity or Christ
spirit it would be equally extennea
to women. But unfortunately, this
Is not true, for if the prodigal son.

given, has a sister who. under the
most seductive toaiptation. make? a

are suddenly drawn so as to leave the
unfortunate one outside the circle.
The doors of churches and lodges
are quickly closed and
For their saintly altars no Insense

To awaken sweet pity In the skies:
While public sentiment Is much dis
turbed. '
No voice of forgiveness is ever beard.
Doors that swung openoto brother's
return
Ao closed against sister, her tears
o'o spurn.
Voices that extolled the brother's
good name,
Secretly whisper the sister's dark
shame.
IkOrts that make long prayers to
heaven,
To her turn cold and unforgiving.
Kor the prodigal son the lamb 'Is
slain,
But the prodigal daughter Is left
in shame.
Thus man. by men and women, Is
quickly forgiven,
While woman, poor soul, must look
to .heaven.
Woman thus becomes an outcast
and soon sinks to the lowest depths,
with no hand to. uplift, no eye to pity,
no heart to forgive. This Is not
right, and until the standard by
which woman is Judged is made
equally binding upon man, society
will never be able to free Itself from
this disgraceful evil. We can never
have the perfect home, the enjoy
ment of sacred bliss or give progeny
a noble birth until the church, the
lodges and the better element of so
ciety array themselves in pronounc
ed opposition to this evil, so that the
lines of Justice will fall upon all
alike, and extend the arms of pro
tection, words of encouragement, al
tars of true worship and prayers of
forgiveness to unfortunate wpmen
as well as men. They cannot serve
the purpose for which they were
founded or establish Christ's king
dom in the heart of man until they
do this.
