Robert A. Booth, who has given so,
many munificent gills to Willamette
University, has announced, through 1
Dr. Fletcher Homan, president of
the university, that he will give $111,
OUD as a starter for a second $100,
000 endowment. At present $I0U,
of tbe endowment has been raised.
On condition that the first $100,000,
was raised, two loyal Willamette men'
agreed to give $2G,00U each on the I
next $150,000, which would make
the endowment reach the quarter :
million mark. The gift of Senator ;
Booth sturts the movement which is ;

lug raised. During the session of tho
Oregon conference Senator Booth
gave $5000 to an Irreducible confer
ence claimants' fund, making $15,000
in all that he has given during the.

Nixon warf drowned in a slouch of
the Willamette river ubout four miles
from this city today. He was ferry
ing his team across the slough on a
raft, which sunk from not being kept
in proper balance. One of his team
was drowned, the other horse escap
ing. The body has not been recov
