President Koortevelt tonlKht wrote a letter to W. J. Ilryan, replying to the latter's telegram in defeiiKe of Governor Has kell. He not only adheres to his for mer statement, bui adds further changes, showing .Mr. Ilaskell'i frlendshln to the Standard Oil Com pany. He tnen contrasts Ilryan'a ac tion with Taft's refusal to indorse Senator Foraker, and concludes by declaring Mr. ilryan's policy for deal ing with the trusts Impracticable, as his railroad and monetary policies. Tho letter reads: "Dear Sir In your telegram you speak of so much of the charge agnlnst Governor Haskell an dealt with his relations, while In Ohio, with the Standard Oil Company. You omit the charge as to hln relations with the Standard Oil Company in terests, as shown by his actions while governor of Oklahoma, this very slimmer, this action being In part taken while he was at Denver, where, as you state, he was by your wish made chairman of the commit tee which drafied the platform upon which you are now standing. In my statement I purposely made no specific allusion to the Ohio matter, and shall at this time make none, In spile of Its significance, and In spite or the further fact that Governor Haskell's close relations with the Standard Oil Interests while he waB In Ohio was a matter of common noto riety. "In Oklahoma It Is a matter of court record. Hy this court record It appears that the attorney-general of the state, elected by the people, ob tained an Injunction to prevent tho I'ralrle Oil & Gas Company from building a pipe line, and that Gov ernor Haskell found this out while ho was at Denver, as appears hy the representations for the dissolution of the Injunction made In his name in bohalf of the state before a court of superior Jurisdiction to that which Issued the Injunction. In this the governor states that the acting gov ernor, in his nbsence, had asked that tho hearing be postponed until he, tho governor, might return and have an opportunity to investigate tho con troversy. "The governor set forth in his peti tion that he Is tho sole authority to determine such matters, and that the attorney-general and tho Judgo of tho lower court had no right in the ciiho, nnd that the action of the Judge of tho lower court represented an en croachment by tho Judiciary.' IIIiH-keil Ijiw Kiirorccnicnt "Tho attorney-general opposed the dissolution or the Injunction, stating that tho I'ralrle Oil & Gas Company was a foreign corporation, which had not accepted the provisions of the constitution uiiplicablo to such cor poralloiiR, find that without nullior liy of law It wns employing a gi'eiit forcu of men anil teams' to dig un. across and into various highways or the slate for the purpose of laying lis pipelines. Tho governor prevailed, tho Injunction was suspended and tho pipe line wns permitted to con tlnuo Its work, to use the words of tho attorney-general, without uny color of law. I call your attention to the fact that the question, was not whether the Judge erred or whether tho Injunction was proper. The point Is that the governor was alert to take out of tho hands of the attorney-general what the attorney-general foil was Ills sworn duty, and prevent an alleged instance of breaking the laws by this particular great corporation. Slumlord Admits Control "As far as I have seen. Governor Haskell has not even attempted any thing which can lie called a defense of his acllou. it thus appears that his action was as Inexcusable as It wns wanton, except on the theory that, In defiance of the attorney-general or tho state, and at all hazards, ho Intended for some reason of his own to protect the interests of a gioal corporallo:'. against the law. ll has been s accosted on his behalf Hint, niter all. ho did n.it favor the Siaiiiliinl t)i ('.mil. any. but merely tlw Pnilrlo Oil I'oiiipniiy. Mil. TAFT TALKS TO KAIMtOAD MKX Chicago, Sept. 23. William H Taft Ileniihltoan candidate for pres ident, delivered the first regular speech of his present campaign tour of the Middle West when, in tins cuj tonight, he addressed a large audi ence of railroad men, assembled to hear his views on the injunction ques tion and other labor problems. The meeting was under union auspices and Mr. Taft spoke by special invi tation of the railroad labor organiza tions. Mr. Taft's address was prepared wilh special reference to the charac ter of his audience, and was a brief hut comprehensive exposition of his own views on the lahor question and of the accomplishments ot the He publican party for the betterment cf the condition of the worklngmen. Talks on Injunctions.. Mr. Taft met the injunction issue fairly and squarely and gave a logi cal explanation of his decisions in injunction cases while on the bench. He said that there was nothing in his record to apologize for and de clared that in every Instance he had merely done his plain duly as a judge and every decision, he said, had been based on ample precedent. He called particular attention to the fact that, while he was not the father of the Injunction in industr(:'.l cases, as had been charged, he was tho first to uphold from the bench the right of worklngmen to slrike In a body. In closing he appealed to the rail road men to endorse the ont pa' ty that favored fair treatment of the railroads In respect to rate-making. . A GOOD STOMACH Menus Good llculth, Clic-rfiiliicss, Ambition, rersistoncT unci hucccss Relief Is not cure; opium will stop the most excruciating pain, but it won't cure the disease. And it's just the same with alleged dyspepsia cures which contain pep sin. The pepsin will help to digest the food, hut the stomach Is left In worse condition than it was before. You don't want pepsin to digest your food; you want the natural juices of your stomach to digest your food. If you have dyspepsia or any stomach trouble, you want to make your stomach so strong that it will digest its own food. You can mako your stomach so strong that you can eat what you want ana nil yvti want mny time you wnnt It, without distress. Ml-o-na w-IH cure your dyspepsia or any. other stomach trouble by building up the flabby walls and making the stomach so strong that It will digest food without artificial aid. In other words, Ml-o-na will cure dyspepsia by removing the cause. The lied Cross Drug Company is tho ugent for Ml-o-na in Kugene. and they say lo every resident ot Kugene whoso stomach Is weak, who lias In digestion or dyspepsia., that Ml-o-na Is guaranteed lo cure or money back.
