KILLED DEER WITH A ROCK The Guard yesterday mentioned the fact that a Cottage Grove man had killed a deer with a rock. The Western O'-egon of that city tells of It ns follows: In the days of long, long nan. when slings were in vogue, possibly little comment would have been made on tho following stunt, but we. of latir d.'tys, who are more niodern ly provided with hunting utensils, can truly regard this with awe: Andrew Ilrund of the local gro cery firm of Metcalt & Brund was hunting In the wilds around Bohem ia this week. He had carried plenty of ammunition and firearms for It? discharge, but somehow had failed to catch a glimpse of the four-footed game aid was about 'o give up the hunt ai a bad Job. So straightway he placed his gun on the shelf ant cast thoughts of nice tu'cy venslon from his mind. One day early this week he hap pened to be passing through a dense underbrush when he spied a deer, a dandy big fellow, who looked at him with aggravating eyes. With no gun at hand he thought things of the star (that was guiding his luck for the day. me only available object with which he might inflict Injury to the deer wns a big rock close by. With no alternative, ho concluded to tnke a chance anyway, and so let fly at his deershlp, striking him in a vital spot. Whether it was from fright or the effect of the rock we are not pre pared to say, but the deer succumbed on the spot. As a consequence, mem bers of the party have had deer steaks and we learn that Mr. Itrund has traded his gun for salt and rocks claiming that either has his gun fad ed In the Bohemia district, it Is re ported, not very extensively, how ever, that the deer was unusually large, but we shall learn more on re turn of the party. A MKASl liK OF MKHIT. Kugene Citlens Should Weigh Well This Kvidence. Proof of merit lies In the evidence. Convincing evidence In Kugene. Is not the testimony of strangers. But the endorsement of Kugene people. That's tho kind of proof given here. The statement of a Eugene eltlien. L. Ilonncy. 469 Olive St., Kugene. Ore., says: "I have suffered from hncknchn frr n ffnml mnnv vnara l i- tronble was severe pains in the bark wnicn caused me a greatd eal of suf fering. My kidney secretions irregular, unnatural in appearance and of much annoyance.
