No. 4, of Lane county, Oregon, at an
election duly held in said district on
the second day of May, 1908, the di
rectors of said district will Issue and
sell the negotiable, interest-hearing
warrants of the district to the amount
of 115,000. . Bald warrants will be
due twenty years after date, payable
at the option of the district after ten
years from date; will bear Interest at
the rate of five per cent per annum,
Inferost payable semi-annually, and
will be Issued In denominations to
suit the purchasers, but In no case

PARENTS MUST SEND
CHILDREN TO SCHOOL
Parents are liable to arrest and
punishment by fine and Imprison
ment If they do not send their chil
dren to school throughout the school
year. The law was ohanged by last
legislature and many do not know
that It Is much more drastic than
It was formerly.
Parents, guardians and others hav
ing control of children are charged
with the duty of sending every child
between the ages of 6 and 14 and all
between 14 and 16 who are not regu
larly engaged in any useful employ
ment, to school. Children who are
physically unfit must exhibit to the
truant officer a certificate of a com
petent physician.
The penalty Imposed on parents
tor nogloctlng to send their children
to school is a fine of 5 to $25, 2 to
10 days In the city or county Jail, or
both fine and jail sentence.
Teachers, principals and all school
officers are charged by the new law
under a penalty of a fine, with re
porting to the truant officer all In
formation they have regarding any
violation of the school law, and all
cases of children who do not attend
school. Teachers who fall to obey
the law In these respects may be
fined from 15 to $20 for each of
