I'p at Lynx Hollow every telephone was knocked out of com mission, and In many cases torn from the walla and destroyed. The insulated wires melted and ran out. The firm place to receive damage from this storm was the Saginaw boarding house. Fortunately . this was not occupied at the time or most disastrous results might have hap pened, possibly loss of life. A bolt of lightning struck the side of the roof, making a small hole, going oompletely through thte structure, demolishing the Interior and making a huge hole at least ten feet In di ameter In the Bide of the building. The telephone was wrecked, being torn from the wall, and everything metallic melted beyond recognition. It Is at tills place. It In thought, the lightning followed the wires on Its course of ruin. The next place visited was that of J K. Noet, where the "Juice" tore off a couple of boards from the house, burning out the 'phone, and Jumped to the local telegraph wires leading to the home of C. J. Queen. Here it followed the wires across the woodwork, tearing1 off several boards. Two polos were shattered. and thus the lightning went on its course up Lynx Hollow, hurling great trees to tne ground In bii (Intern mid destroying telephones. j Other houses were struck, hut with little damage. The lightning was accompanied with rcuorts' like that of a pistol, and a number of the Inhabitants were badly frightened ftu viuven had a telegraph Instru ment which was pretty well melted ns a result of the electrical visit. This was without doubt the worst storm that section has ever had, and none are hankering after another such ex perience. Cottage Grove Western Oregon. A four days' celebration was inaugurated 1n Boston today in observance of the centennial anniversary of the Insti tution of the first grand lodge of col ored Masons In America. Nearly all of the 42 colored grand lodges of regular Masons in the United States and Canada have sent representatives to the celebration, which Is being condncted under the direction of the Prince Hall grand lodge, V. & A. His request was entertained, but before action could be taken Warren fell at Hunker Hill. Hall then applied to the provincial grand master of modern Masons of Massachusetts for a charter, This petition was rejected on account of his color.
