The com munity thai undertakes the building of a Rood road, at the end of the Jnh has all the money the road cost and the road also. There Is practically no money spent that la carried beyond the Immediate neighborhood. For more money will be sent Into the com munity hy non-resident taxpayers than will be carried away for any purpose. This Is why I say building a Kood road is like taking a dollar out of one pocket and putting two dollars in th other. Uetter than that: to the man who owns land near or adjacent to the improved road. It Is like taking a dollar from one poc ket and putting five In the other. At the end of the Job the landowner has the road and five times to ten times his portion of Its cost added to the value of his land. Absolutely the best Investment' that any undevelop ed community can make Is the Im provement of its wagon roads and I would like to see Lane county spend jjau.utn, or even 9400,000 on improving the roads from the Hot 1 Springs on McKenzle to Mapleton, onj Sluslaw, Such an improvement would make all the magniricent summer resorts of Lane county ac- j eessable to the public and attract thousands of non-resident capital-' Ists who would spend their money in. our midst and help develop our lat.m resounds.
