Mrs. Simons, who resides on East
Third street, near High, arrived home
from a trip north on yesterday al-
ternoon's train. While at the depot
she laid her purse down on a bench
for a moment and when sne reached
her residence she missed $25 that
had been In the purse. She thought
that someone in the depot had taken
the money while she was transacting
business with the ticket agent, and
told Chief of Police Farrlngton of
the occurrence. She told him that a
boy had helped her carry her bag
gage from the depot and entered her
house with her, so the chief at once
suspicioned that the boy was the
gulltv party Instead of someone at
the depot. He went to the boy's
home and questioned him, succeeding

on a table in Mrs. Simons' house. He
had spent $1.50 of the amount and

tals of Shrlnerdom, says ths Port
land Journal. In order to witness
the event the Shrlners of Portland
are going to Eugene In state and a
I special train next Saturday, and the
j Inhabitants cf Eugene are taking
precauti-ins accordingly.
It Is To he a great event, according
to the program laid out. The Shrin-
f ers' special will leave Portland at 8
I o'clock Saturday morning, returning
jat II o'clock Sunday morning. On
j reaching Eugene they will inarch to
, the armory, led by the band, where
I lunch will be served. After that wl,l
be the big street parade. In whijh
all the Shrlners In the state will take
part. The features of this will be
the drill corps of the Arab Patrol,
picked from the famous drill corps of

Templar, of Portland.
