The capacity of the Corvallls saw mill, which is now owned by Kugeiie people, now 30.000 feet dally, is to be douljed within a short time. The arinoum fluent was made Saturday j by (;. O. Ilassett, one of the owners.' w ho is to be the resident manager of j the property. Mr. iiassett has been; manager for the Kooth-KeJIy Compa ny at Springfield and otlwr mills for nine years, and Is an expert In the lumber business as well as in matters financial, ills family arrived In Cor vallls this week and Mr. Ilassett will assume personal charge of the mill in about ten days. The machinery for the Increased capacity has already been ordered. It will be Installed piecemeal, as time and occasion will permit, and without a shut down of the machin ery, which will be kept going steadily. The new machines are of the latest patterns, and when finally Installed, the local mill will be one of the finest In the Western Oregon country. The name of the company is the Occiden tal Lumber Company. The company now employs 30 men, and when the capacity is in creased the force will be larger. It Is planned to keep the mill, running steadily. A large supply of logs is now in the stream, and others will be available as fast as the three million feet in the present holdings are man ufactured into lumber. They come (ruin up the McKenzle, and are the finest logs obtainable. A hundred thousand feet of clear lumber has been sawed and placed In the yard since the mill started up, and It Is now sutilclonUy seasoned for dress ing and manufacture Into flooring, rustic and other kinds of house ma terial. A dozen carloads of dreBsed lumber to meet pressing orders have arrived within the last few duys from mills up the McKonzte. The Roosevelt golden trout at pres ent is the product solely of Volcano creek, a turbulent stream of lo miles In length on the slopes of Mount Whitney, Cal. Two years ago some j of President Roosevelt's friends in California appealed to him to save from extermination this most beautl-, ful fish. Until by presidential procla mation Mount Whitney was made a forest reserve, anglers in large num-; bers visited the section and preyed upon the Roosevelt golden trout. I Responding to appeal in behalf of the fish, which subsequently was named for him, President Roosevelt; took up the matter with the United ; States fish commission.
