.o that a religious paper The
Watchman baa jumped on the
,,,.nnrl of Christians who leave their
Christianity at home when they
take a vacation, we feel tree to say
that It is a habit that is both bad
and common.
nith ihe "gentlemen's" clubs of
Chicago and Philadelphia hot for a
fight to determine the championship
between "society pugilists" of the
, cities who will deny that refine
ment and culture are the long suits
of society.
The sureaders of this new propa
ganda, that Hinging Is healthy, are
on the wrong tack. What is really
needed is to convince tho thousands
hn nersist in trying that singing is
not only unhealthy,, but actually dan
gerous.
Things have surely changed when
a newspaper is credited with enter
prise for getting "news" by wireless.
When it was called the "grapevine
telegraph" editors who used it were
laughed at, by those in the know.
.lumnlne Jehoshaphat! Here's a
man saying that Fairbanks wasn't
nominated because his boom wasn't
started early enough, and launching
ope for 1912 for him. Now, wouldn't
that cool things a little?
As long aB the powers confine
themselves to calling Castro an "in
ternational nuisance" no change
need be expected in him, as nothing
short of a good kicking or thump
ing ever acts on pinheads of his type.
There's a tip in the order of the
Paris police authorities forbidding
the printing of criminals' portraits
in newspapers, on the theory that
anything that exploits criminals in
creases crime.
Human nature i3 so weak that we
fear the discovery of a method of
telephoning without wires, just an
nounced in France, will largely in
vrease the crop of liars.
"Ain't It a shame, Maud?" that
Queen Wllhelmina should have to
bother with that Castro mix-up just
when she is expecting a visit from
the stork?
Shouldn't wonder if putting the
big Pennsylvania Coke and Coal Co.
in the hands of a receiver was a move
in the same to hoist the price ol
coal.
Let's get the Carver railroad or
any other old road that comes within
striking distance of Eugene. Kail
roads are the great builders of cities.
The way to get good water is to
go to the mountains after it just
as Eugene purposes to do.

HIDDEN' DANGERS.
Nature filves Timely Warnings tliut
No Eugene Citizen Can
Afford to Ignore.
DANGER SIGNAL NO. 1 comes
from the kidney secretions. They
will warn yon when the kidneys are
sick. Well kidneys send out a thin,
pale and foamy, or a thick, red, ill-
smelling urine, full of sediment and
irregular in passage.
DANGER SIGNAL NO. 2 comes
from the back. Hack pains, dull and
heavy, or sharp and acute, tell you
of sick kidneys and warn you of the
approach of dropsy, diabetes and
BrUht's disease. Dunn's Kidney
I'ills cure sick kidneys and cure them
periiiunentlv. Here's Eugene proof:
Mrs. W. D. Wood, or 3s5 West
Eighth street, Eugene, Oregon, says:
"1 have used Doan's Kidney PillF
with fine results and have also
treated one of my children who was
afflicted with weakness of the kid
neys for a number of years. From
the great benefit already derived 1
do not hesitate to recommend them.
Backache, lameness and that tired
and restless draggy feetling made
life a burden to me and I was un
able to got rest night or day. Doan's
Kidney Pills did great service in re
lieving this condition."

Advertisements, Like Clocks,
Should Keep Running0
A store s atl v. r: lscin, n1 s tell
tile pejpi,- what is "doing" at
that sWiro - what is new. what
is inviting, why today is a good
time to visit the store. People
look for the ads to tell them
these things just as naturally as
they would look ul a clock to
tell the time.
Sometimes a clock does not
run Botutftimus a store's ud
does not run. A "run-duwn"
clock or ad are about equally
unsatisfactory, unserviceable,
misleading.
Cui'ioiiB thing about it is that
a merchaut who would think it
absurd to have a run-down" or
out-of-repulr clock will, some
times, deliberately let his ud
stop running. It's not wise, nor
good busiuess, nor defensible

is sometimes done.
