S Sherman was notified today that
ho Is the Itepuhllcan candidate for1
the vice presidency. The ceremony
was made the occasion for a big dem
onstration In which the Hepnhllcan
organizations of Utica, Itochester. I
Troy, Syracuse and other cities took
part. In addition to the other visit-'
ors the early morning traliiB brought
the members of the notification com
mittee, representing nearly all the
states and territories.
The event of the day was preceded
by a parade which marched through
the decorated streets of the down
town section. The actual notifica
tion ceremonies were simple In char
acter. After Congressman Sherman
had been Introduced Senator Bur
rows, chairman of the notification
committee, notified the candidate In
a short speech, and the latter replied
briefly. Short speeches were also de
livered by Mayor Wheeler anil Presi
dent Stryker, of Hamilton College.
Subsequently a luncheon was served
