A committee of two from every church and or ganization In Cottage Grove has been appointed and It Is hoped that all persons interested In the plan will come out. A free library and reading room is something that ev ery city of this size needs, and all should not only speak favorably on the question when the opportunity affords, but they ought to attend this meeting next Wednesday even ing and "push a good thing along." THK CAHK OK THK KYK. Through the earnest solicitation of . nr K me nas de cided to remain In Cottage Leader and Western Oregon YACHT RACES FOR In this, our last article on the Eye and its care, there are several import ant Items which we especiallv wish our readers to remember. 1. The Importance of having children's eyes examined bv a com petent refractionlst, whether there are symptoms of eye-trouble or not But especially so if the little ones complain of headaches or seem dull and listless about their studies. Or of the eyelids are red and scales form ever night on the margins of the lids. 2. The necessity of heeding the warnings that the eyes give when they need attention. Such warnings as blurring of the page and inabil ity to read or sew any length of time without an effort. Pain In the eves headaches, nausea, and dizziness, when there is no apparent cause for it, and many other Important symp toms are never failing signs of eye troubles. 3. The Importance of having a very thorough and careful examina tion of the eyes made by a competent eye specialist when getting glasses. For the eyes are one of the most delicate structures In the body and are easily Injured If not treated with the utmost care. 4. In getting spectacles It should be seen that they fit the face, that Is, the pupil of the eye should look exactly through the center of the lens, otherwise a harmful prismatic effect Is produced. People who are unfortunate enougn to tie possessed with poor' eyes, are not nearly so unfortunate as they would have been twenty or thirty years ago. Great progress has been made In the study of the eye, Its defects and Its corrective meas ures. It Is In the latter, perhaps, that the most advancement has been made. New methods of lens grind ing have been perfected, and new ap paratus has been designed whereby results heretolore unattainable are now made possible. All combining to secure a degree of relief from eye troubles little thought ot half a cen tury ago. Eye-glass fitting is a complicated art and requires not only comprehen sive knowledge of the eye, but also the aid of delicate and costly instru ments. Lenses should, with few exceptions, be ground to fit each individual eye, and not taken from an ordinary sup ply case with the nearest 8tock lens on hand. All eyes are not cast In the same mold and each eye should be fitted according to Its needs. The Importance of securing prop erly fitted glasses is not appreciated as it should be by the public In gen eral, and mistakes made In improper diagnosing, prescribing ndd fitting, are seldom realized until too late. when irreparable damage has been done. In my office, suite 1 to 4, New Chrixman Building, I have a splen did equipment of optical instruments. full v up-to-date. And am able to give my patients the very best In all that is known for correcting ab normal conditions of the eye so fat as can be done through the methods of refraction. I make a specialty of a thorough and careful examination so as to be sure that my diagnoses and treatment is correct. A cordial invitation is extended to all, who care to know more about my work, to visit my office. FKANC H'Cll.E HAKD. DIKE DISTKKSH It I Xenr at Hand to Hundred of Kugene Ilwidcrs.
