Leading citizens, without regard to their political affiliations, have en tered Into the plans for the event, which will be graced by rhe pres ence of many republican officials of Nebraska and of the city of Lin coln. Th ceremonies attending the no tification will take place on the Krounds of the state capital, whore titan il a have been erected for the fieakors and prominent guests. The ceremonies will be preceded by a luncheon at the Lincoln Hotel, at tended by Mr. Ilryan, Mr. Kern and the members of the notification com mittee. Tho speech of acceptance by Mr. Bryan, It is said, will be short as compared with the acceptance apfoch of Mr. Taft. It Is said to contain less than six thousand words. The Issues of the campaign will he discussed, but not at great length, Mr. Brynn's views being reserved for mere elaborate troatment In the sev eral speeches he Intends to make dur ing the latter part of August and early In September. Tho advance guard of the crowd of visitors who will attend the notifi cation put In an appearance today. Largo parties. Including a number of political clubs, are expected to arrive tomorrow morning from Kansas City, Omaha and other points. The city la elaborately decorated for the occasion and the downtown streets are filled with hawkers selling Bryan and Kern souvenirs and badges of all descriptions. ACTIVITY OF AGEO HEAD OF SALVATION ARMY Ixindon, Aug. 11. General Booth, the venerable head of the Salvation Army, continues to he one of the wonders of the axe. In his eight ieth year he is Just completing his fifth automobile tour through Great Britain. Starting from Dundee, the general and his staff have visited scoreB of towns, and addressed hun dreds of meettings. Everywhere he has been received with enormous crowds. General Booth's next trip will be to South Africa, where he goes in order to have a look at Rhodesia, and to form an oolnlon as to its WILLIAM BOOTH. capabilities to receive British set tlers. Should tho field be found fa vorable the Salvation Army will turn a part of the present emigration from Canada to Rhodesia. FORBES TO ARRIVE EARLY IN SEPTEMBER Coach Forbes, of the University football team, Is expected to arrive in Eugene soon after September 1 to take charge of the preparations for tho 1908 football team. Forbes has been in the lumber business near Se attle. Olln Arnsplger. assistant to Forbes, has beon working near Eugene all summer. In speaking of the rules he said that there was little change from last year In this season's. The rule books are Just out, edited as us ual by Walter Camp. Trainer Hayward Is expected to re turn from the East shortly before college opens. OREGON'S RIFLE TEAM LEAVES FOR EAST In charge of Adjutant-General Kin der, the ride team of the Oregon National Guard left last night lu a special car for Camp Perry, on Luke Erie, Ohio, where they will represent Oregon lu the National rifle competi tion. The team will reach Camp Per ry about a week before the tourna ment begins, so Hint they will have opportunity to familiarize themselves with the range and rest from the long rlile on the train.
