thusiastic welcome awaits I,ord Rob
erts upon his arrival in Toronto this
evening. For the next two days the
famous field marshal will bo the
guest of the city aud the programme
for his cntertulnment will take up
nearly every moment of his time un
til his depnrture Saturday morning
for Hamilton and Niagara Falls. To
morrow ho will bo presented with a
civic address of welcome. Other fea
ture of the programme will be a pub
lic reception In queen a Park, and
the conferring of an honorary degree
upon him by Toronto University.

tomobile driven by Miss Ethel Mc
Cormuck, and occupied by four other
women and two children, all of San
Mateo, suddenly swerved from the
road as the result of tho broken
brakes and plunged slrallght down an
embankmutit causing the death of
three of the women aud two children
and Injuring the other two. The vie
tlms of the disaster, the second of Its
kind near San Francisco within 4
hours were: Mr. Thomas A. Mc
Cormack. her daughters. Mias Clara
and Miss Klhel, Mrs. Ira 0. O'Brien
and the latter s two Infant children,
Miss K. O. McCauley, of San Francisco.
Of these seven Miss McCaulley and
Miss Kthcl McCormack, .the driver
and the only two alive.

sociation of Wisconsin began Its an

Clinton, Iowa. Oug. 5. Clinton Is
preparing for the entertainment of
the Upper Mississippi River Improve
ment Association, which Is to assent

month. The local committee already

a witch, and prophesied his violent

the woman would sit near him in tne
train, and last week, he returned
home, wrote letters to his friends,
saving the witch had driven him to
death, and then blew out his brains
with a revolver.
