Mo'.lon for dismissal by the defendant in :he caie of the school board of liisirp" 31. of Lane county, vs. It. V.'. Smith, teach er near Jonrtion Ci'y, aiv-aled to Superintendent. Ackerman frn:n the decision of the county supeiintendent of Lane county, haa been been sus tained by his h'ltior. the superiuten dent of public Instruction. Smith was released by the nchuol board ot a district near Junction City for alleged use of profane ianguae. and he ap pealed to Mr. Arkerma.t. The school board of the Lane coun ty district accused Smith of teaching the children to dance and go through movements that were not required In the course of study. The superinten dent of Lane county did not find the complaints well ba.4ed. and decided in favor of the teacher. The board then appealed to the state superintendent. The case was dismissed on the ground that a full settlement had been made between all parties. KTKOXO BOX STOI.KX HtOM NTOItK FOUND XKAIt HOSKHUKG RoBcburg, Or., .-uly 21. J. A. Hewett, who lives three miles north of this city on the Winchester road, has discovered the strong box that was taken from the safe blown In I. Abraham's atore last October. He was walking along a small creek last Sun day that runs through his place when he made the find. The box cantalned some very valuable papers and sev eral county warrants, none of the contents being of any value to any one except Mr. Abraham. The value of the warrants will reach J1500 or 2000. The box, after being taken from the safe, was drilled and another shot placed in the top of It to reveal the contents. There being but a small amount of cash In the box, the bur glars had dropped it In this ditch so that' It would not soon be discovered. It will be remembered that this safe blowing caused the fire which de stroyed the store and general mer chandise stock of I. Abraham on Oc tober 31, 1907. There was not the slightest clue to the burglary at the time, but small bits ot evidence have been constantly coming to light, and now that the strong box with its con tents Intact has been discovered, It may furnish evidence enough to cap ture the safe crackers. There have lieen'severul pieces of money In circulation since the bur glary that hud the markings of nitro glycerine, and it Ik thought bv sev eral local firms that this money had not passed through many hands since the burglary until It came into their possession. A careful investigation will be made of the strong box. It is believed the parties who did the Job will bo apprehended.
