Walts, a well-known iraduate of the University of Ore nin. has ailed a man at Atnena ior damages for alleged defamation of character. A press correspondent at Athena tells of the suit as follows: "Claiming that Jerry Stone has wrongfully damaged his reputation as a school teacher and also as a law yer. Homer I. Watts, formerly prin cipal ot the schools at Athena, has itarted a damage suit In tne circuit court of Umatilla county asking dam ages against Stone in the sum of t,- 600. 'The particular offense charged sgalnst him Is that on December 1. 1907, while Watts was serving as principal of the Athena schools he, Slone, caused-to he published and circulated a slanderous, scandalous nd libelous story concerning the plaintiff. In effect, this story was hat Watts had disregarded t.ie In structions ot the Athena school board and that he had also used profane language on the streets of Athena, and had called puplla by various of- enslve numes. "Because of this alleged libel the plaintiff complains that he Is unable lo secure further employment as a teacher, and on this ground ho Is damaged to tho extent'of J1600.
