held today under the direction of

crowd of visitors from all points ra
diating from the city, says the Re
view. Merchants who subscribed to
the fund to defray the expenses of
the event did more I linn enough busi
ness on their special sales to justify
;ho experiment, and It Is a safe asser
tion that "Market Day" will become
a regular tiling In Roseburg from
now on.
The feature of the day was the pa
rade, made up of the Roseburg band
and a long string of flue hnrses.scnie
driven and others led. It began at
the Roseburg hotel and ended finally
at the Rochdale store, after doubling
buck from the Hotel McClallen. Af
ter the parade broke up the band
played In front of the "booster" tmsl
nens houses, preceded In each In
stance by a "spiel" from the Incom
parable Zimmerman, whose style of
oratory, while short on polish, Is sev
eral miles long in effectiveness.
The auction sale of horses, held at
Diton's stable yards, was the con
cluding event of the day. It was at
tended by practically every visitor In
the city, and when It was over every
one departed satisfied. Now that such
an affair has punned the experimental
itsi;e, the future holds In store many
"MKSer and better" ones. All that
remains to be done Is to set the datu.
