MAN'S STOMACH
Dr. Ira B. Bartlc. formerly of En
gene, now located at .Urhfield. op
erated upon a man there a few days
ago for the removal or a large as
sorlment of Junk from his stomach
The Portland Journal U-els of It as
follows: '
Dr. Ira B. Hartle of North B-end
waa to have opened the scientific pro-
grain of the Oregon State Medical
association yesterday by reading a
paper on "Surgical Interference in
Some Obstinate Stomach Trouble."
Dr. Bartle wired that he couldn't
come and aent a telegram saying
why. Everybody supposed It was a
Joke. But It was the truih. Here is
the telegram:
"Operated on glaM eater this
morning. Removed from stomach 3
knives, 5 loaded rifle cartridges, 4
door keys, 17 horse-shoe nalU. 4 six
penny nails, 6 dimes, 3 nickels, 1
fish hook, 4 ounces of glass. Obstin
ate stomach trouble."
Dr J. C. O'Day who arrived from
Coos Bay this morning to attend the
convention, said that the telegram
waa not an exaggeration, hut that
the man operated upon had been a
circus performer 17 years, had swal
lowed things In a sideshow and had
come over from Hawaii on the same
steamer with him, having been taken
III Just before Cooa Hay was reached.
The operation was performed In the
North Bend hospital and 113 pieces
of hard, foreign articles were re
moved from the glass eater s stom
ach.

WISKSTLIXO CHAMPIONSHIP.
Seattle, July 1. Frank Gotch. of
Humbolt, la., maintained his right to
the world's cntch-as-catch-cun wrest
ling championship tonight when he
out-classed Dr. B. F. Holler of Se
attle, winning two consecutive falls In
IS minutes and 25 seconds, and 2b
minutes and 54 seconds respectively.
tne men entered the ring, weigh
ing close to 200 pounds each. Holler
may have been a pound or two heav
ier. They went at It like bulls from the
start and Golch was soon forcing
matters, lie worked h Is notorious
toe hold six times In succession In the
rn-st bout. Holler broke nwny each
time, but It wore on him and finally
Gotch downod him with a crotch and
half-Nelson.
Holler did better work In the sec
ond bout, but Ootch was like a ter
rier after a rat, and went from hold
to hold wllh startling rapidity. Rol
ler's host work In this round was to
break a half Nelson and n crotch, af
ter being seemingly lost. te was fin
ally picked up and dumped to his
shoulders from the sunie hold. It Is
doubtful If he really was downed,
but It was only a question of minutes
anyway, as he waa at Goteh's mercv.
Eddie (inffney of Seattle, was re
feree. Owing to he high prices the
crowd was not more than 3000.
