THE EUGENE DAILY GUARD, MONDAY, Jl'NB 15, 1008 MAX ZIMMERMAN TELLS OF MARKET DAY AV1LL ITU. IT (II T, IIESI'ITK ()! POSITION TO Ills IM.WS r.l( MKItS AUK Wil li HIM. To Whom Jt May Concern: DuriiiK my absence lor a few days, I notice a fi;w enquiries tlirniiKh 111" liresa regarding tlie Market Day. Cel ebration, which I am ciruaniziiiK In Eugene for Sal unlay, June '!. Now, J am surprised at any merchant at thfH age who is ho narrow-minded and for a few paltry dollars which la liable to bring hack thousands of dollars, to turn dow n one of tho best business propositions thut ever came thla way a proposition to benefit himself, his neighbors, the town and the farmers. Yet nothing surprises me now that takes place in .Eugene. I happened to be here on election day, and don't you know that there were people right hero who votf?d against the University appropria tion. Think of it! Now, regarding Market. Day, one merchant who tried his utmost to turn it down usdd for Ilia excuse that the merchants should get It up themselves, and he would not subscribe. Now, that's exactly what I ask the merchants to do get it up themselves and boost It for all It's worth. 1 am merely here to nhow them how to get up a Market Day. Then, again, another mer chant 'h excuse for not helping or sub scribing was that the commercial club should get It up. Who Is there on the commercial club that knows how to get up a Market Day? What merchant in town Is going to be pa triotic enough to leave his business and work, and advance money to get It up, even If he knew how? That patriotic feeling is not displayed here. However, the subscription list, which I have, I am pleased to state, has been signed by several real es tato men. That shows a boost spirit, as they have nothing to sell on .Mar ket Day. But when I bring crowdB to town every merchant, every hotel, evory store, every eating house, every ine of them, will be benefited and they should contribute towards the expense and help boost this deal along. My list is open for anybody's inspection. When it comes to any one Insinuating graft, Mr. Colgate and myself are the grentest contrib utors to the fund. We have but $2 SO subscribed at the present time and it will cost at least $300 to get this up without any premiums and prkr,3. 1 went Into one jewelry store and asked the proprietor If ho would not contribute a cheap wedding ring for tho couple who are to wed. Gosh, but tho fellow looked wise, whon he said, "I guess not!" Hut I shall buy them a fine ring, and I as sure you It will be out of a booster jewelry store. I see by tho papers tho brewers are going to boycott tho farmers who live In a prohibition district by not buying their barley and hops.. Don't you see how month ly Market Days will be of advantage to the farmer? Me need not look for any ono man to liny his stock ad produce, but u well organized Market Day w ill attract buyers from ;all over once a month, and create competition, and tin; farmer Is In sured the highest market price. Now, Mt is a fact in I.a lliaude, 1'endleton 'and Hak'T t'ity. where I was instru mental in iiistailli::; market days, trie Sltt an 1 Ar:i.;n r i'eo;i)'' (,,n m-d link a-' 1.11:11 I'-r the piii'i-mis ef ive stork tn.m tlie farmers. "'No m:e (loin' nothing for no one, vlio won't do nothing for you." Sis Hopkins. Well ,o will have tho biggest crowd of market day boosters and their entire families ever seen in En- gene at any one time or tlie State of Oregon. Mark my words, the farm ers are coming from all over. I am asked where do I g t my pay. Keep your eye on the Colgate-Zimmerman Commission Co. after you get a reg ular monthly market day established. It is gratifying to note that this latter is a rare exception, as most good medic al men admit ignorance of the sub ject, and frequently send their pat ients to qualified Osteopaths when it seems advisable in their judgment to do so: Every patient should, to be gin with, make certain that his Os teopath holds the diploma of a rep utable Osteopathic college, and a li cense to practice in your state; and this, having been ascertained, treat ment may be accepted with perfect confidence. There is every reason In the world why tho confidence of sufferers should be given to qualified Osteo paths without reserve. Osteopathy is no longer an experiment. It consti tutes the regular means of treating disease that Is In use by 4,000 phy sicians, practicing in all states and territories, in Great Brltian, Hawaii, China and Japan. The course of training through which an Osteopath now has to pass before receiving his diploma Is an arduous and extended one, covering three year's personal attendance with nine month's solid work in each year a total expendi ture of time and attention, fully eq ual to that required by the best medi cal colleges. The Osteopath is fully and thoroughly equipped in every study that is involved in healing work, with the single exception of materia medica, which he does not use at all. In anatomy he has a training that is not equalled by any other physician; and, his special sys tem of treatment, conforming, as it does, entirely to Nature's laws, simp ly endeavoring to help Nature with her work, Is so simple, rational and manifestly incapable of harm In com petent hands, that it should commend Itself to all. It can only he added that the system has been recognized by legislative enactment in the great majority of the states of the Union, that It Is proving itself anew every day, and that those who endorse it 'iat s;u. , ' tin , ..
