VARSITY AND HIGH SCHOOL WILL PLAY A few months ago, when word was passed around among the local fans that the high Bchool was to put out a baseball team, many shook their heads dubiously, thinking doubtless of the fact that for two years past the high scnool has had no represen tative baseball team and reasoning from this that it would be a diffi cult task to develop In a month a team that would be a worthy com petltor of the more experienced teams of other high schools and colleges of the state. Others reckoned on tne spirit that hasever ueen displayed by our local high school iu any branch of athletics that she cared to take up. That spirit that though of ten defeated and disappointed, never quits, but ever rises again to meet tae next opponent with the same coura geous dash and gritty endurance that characterized their first attempt. Now I say those who reckoned upon this spirit trusted that eventually the high school would win, and although it must needB go up against far stronger teams It would ever acquit iself honorably. So far the high school has proven itself worthy of this trust. They have so far played five games and all of them with the stronger amateur teams. . Although three of these have been defeats, those who watch ed closely saw In our local team the material of a winning bunch. Each game has baen closer than the one before and now the hopes of the high school are souring high and they are believing that, although no cham pfDnshin banner cm be won this year that baseball will be given such an impetus that It will never again die out In t-'ie high school. On tomorrow afternoon the hi-h school'-! regular i'iii.t team will lint up against the 'varsity rtgiilar fiiv.t team.
