day evening.

Portland. Multnomah county.
The week was cloudy and showery I
until Saturday, when clear weather:
set in. A severe storm, accompanied
by high southwest winds and heavy
rainfall, occurred on Thursday.
Salem, Marion county. The fore
part of the week was cloudy, with
light rains. A very heavy frost oc
curred on Saturday morning.
Corvallis, Benton county Show
ery weather prevailed until Saturday.
A heavy frost occurred on Friday.
Monroe, Henton county. Stormy
weather and high winds occurred on
Thursday and Friday. Hail fell on
Friday. A killing frost occurred Sat
urday morning
Kugene, Lane county. This week
was cloudy and rainy until Saturday
afternoon, when bright and clear
weather set in.
Bull Run, Clackamas county.
Cloudy weather, with light rains, nnj-

Southern Oregon,
Drain, Douglas county. Cloudy
weather with drizzling rain prevailed
during the greater portion of the
week. Thursday night and Friday
were stormy, with nearly half an
inch of rainfall. The week closed
fiiir and bright, with cool nights and
light frost.
Grants Pass, Josephine county.

clear. A heavy frost occurred on

Ashland, Jackson county. The

vicinity. They say that 47 rattlers,
mostly ;ood si.ei ones, have heen
killed in a den discovered on
Jerry Pipes place recently. Tile kil
ling occurred on several different
days when the weather was warm and
bright and the snakes came out of
their den to take a sun hath. On Sun
day last, fourteen wjre killed.
I'p to the time this den was lo
cated and watched no one in the vi
cinity had any le;Ja that there were
y rattlesnakes to speak of in the
neiithtiurhood and the lare nuniher
killed to date has occasioned much
surpr.se. I he skins, rattles und oil
of the snakes are taken care of and
preserved for various uses.

lames Parker Was bom In Coshoc
ton county, Ohio, March 19, 1H33.
While yet a child bis parents moved
to Indiana, and from there to Illinois.
His parents died when he was four
teen years old, nnd In 1853 he nntl
his younger brother, Joseph M. Par
ker, and two sisters, Mrs. James Par
vln and Mrs. John Stoops, crossed
the plains to Oregon, settling In Rat
tlesnake valley, this county, and from
there he moved to Pleasant II 111 and
In IStiS he bought and moved to the
farm on which he lived until his
death.
October 1, 1S57, he was married
to Phoebe K. Hlgdon, who died July
14, 1904, and to thorn were born
eleven children, eight sons and three
daughters, nine of whom survive
him, l.uella M. (deceased), Albert
K., I.uclen (deceased), llortensn I...

C, Leroy C, (iuy W anil Augustus.
